The former governor of Goiás and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in the 2026 elections, Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), stated in an interview with CBN Paraíba on the morning of this Friday (12) that he will support the classification of criminal factions as terrorist groups and intends to mobilize the Armed Forces in the Amazon to confront the country's largest criminal organizations.

When commenting on the decision adopted by the United States and responding to questions about potential risks to Brazilian sovereignty, Caiado asserted that the measure has popular backing and cited opinion poll data.
"This is PT talk. It even surprised me. The [Quaest] survey shows that 73% of the Brazilian population asks for them to be considered terrorists. This does not put sovereignty at stake."

In the interview, the pre-candidate stated that the advance of factions has led to the loss of State control over certain territories and advocated for changes in how the country tackles organized crime.
"The territories no longer have the Rule of Law. It is the rule of the faction. This is the reality that needs to be harshly fought in Brazil. And I will declare them terrorists, yes, on my first day in government."
Caiado also said that, if elected, he intends to bring the issue to the National Congress to expand the use of the Armed Forces, focusing on the Amazon region, which he points out as strategic for international drug trafficking.
"I will send to the National Congress a proposal so that I can use the Armed Forces to recover the entire Brazilian Amazon, which is 100% occupied by the Red Command, PCC, and criminal factions from Colombia, Venezuela, and Mexico, which have turned the Brazilian Amazon into the largest drug export hub in the world."
The proposal is part of Caiado's campaign platform, which has public security as one of its central pillars and advocates for legal changes to intensify the fight against criminal factions in the country.
